Tockwith Loop

Copmanthorpe - Long Marston - Tockwith - Wighill - Copmanthorpe

A ride of just over 20 miles over the historic Marston Moor and along the Rudgate Roman Road.

Leave the village centre on School Lane and Manor Heath. Go right at the flyover and take the first exit on the roundabout. Pass the entrance to Askham Bryan College of Agriculture and then take the left turn to Askham Richard at the bottom of the hill.

After a mile take the right turn to Askham Richard. Cycle through the village and stay on the same road for a couple of miles passing through Angram and Hutton Wandesley. At Long Marston cross over the York - Wetherby road and the road takes you through the site of the Battle of Marston Moor (1644) one of the key battles of the civil war. There is a Monument on the right hand side of the road that commerates the battle.

Continue on through Tockwith and a mile after the village you arrive at a cross roads. Turn left and cycle down Rudgate, the Roman Road, for 3½ miles again crossing the York - Wetherby road. Leave Rudgate at the cross roads near Thorpe Arch, go left to Wighill. At the top of Wighill take a left and follow the road through the village and 2 miles later through Healaugh and for another 3 miles when you will return to the T junction at the rear of the college. Turn right and back up the hill retracing your route back to the village centre.
