The Copmanthorpe Website

Church Street

The place for all things spiritual in Copmanthorpe.

There are two Churches in Copmanthorpe, an Anglican and a Methodist. Both have sizeable congregations made up of children and the over 35s. However, just as people no longer tend to shop locally, Christians don't automatically attend their local church so these days more people now leave Copmanthorpe on a Sunday to attend churches around York than meet at either of the village churches. There are significant numbers who are a part of York Community Church and the many congregations of St Michael le Belfry.

Global, a church which until recently met at Askham Bryan College, make a significant contribution to village life through their involvement with Copmanthorpe Carnival. They help in the planning of the event with 3 members on the committee and on the day provide an army of volunteers to run their own activities and help out on others.

During the 90's Christians from these many churches met and worked together on projects such as Christians in Copmanthorpe, Peacemakers and Church in Action (if you ever had your car washed for free, or you used the free Christmas post then you received a free gift from CIA). The monthly Saturday morning Men's Breakfast continues this tradition.
