Copmanthorpe Carnival

Copmanthorpe's Biggest Community Event

Traditionally taking place on the first Saturday in July the Carnival kicks off summer in Copmanthorpe. Since 2007 the Carnival has incorporated a music festival, which has hugely increased its popularity with teenagers and with people outside of Copmanthorpe.

The Carnival was established to raise funds to create a recreation centre for Copmanthorpe and the surrounding area and it continues to raise money for the continuing upkeep and improvement of The Recreation Centre. The first carnivals took place in farm fields on Temple Lane, but once The Recreation Centre was established it move there. It has slowly progressed over the years with some events coming and then going, but the core of the carnival has remained the stalls, rides and events on the playing field.

The Recreation Centre provide a sports field for football and cricket and informal recreation, as well as for the Carnival. There are three tennis courts, one of which is also marked for net ball, a bowling green and children’s play ground. In addition we built a club house, sports hall and changing rooms. We also host the Scout hall and the Childcare nursery. All these facilities are available to the general public of Copmanthorpe and district. The facilities are primarily used by sports clubs, but the sports hall is available for private hire by individuals or groups and the sports field is available for informal public recreation when not in use for club activities. The kick about area between the pitch and the bowling green and nursery is permanently available for informal games and we have provided two five aside goal posts to encourage this use.
