CakeThe Place and the People

The Annexe coffee shop is a long awaited and welcome addition to the community of Copmanthorpe. A place to recharge, reflect and relax in the heart of the village, with friends, with strangers, or in a quiet corner on your own.

Plans for a coffee shop have been in development for over a decade, with venues such as the old post office and former Costcutter supermarket considered. But it was a chance conversation with Paul the proprietor of the Newsagent that lead to the identification of an opportunity to annexe a building onto the existing village hub.

The owners of The Annexe, Sarah and Chris Sharp have lived in Copmanthorpe for over 25 years. Our ambition to set up and run a coffee shop has grown out of many years of community involvement. We have led several Youth and Children's clubs in the area, and Chris was on the Copmanthorpe Carnival committee from 2001 to 2013. Our friendly staff may be familiar faces, they all live locally.

In addition to the coffee shop itself, we were also driven by the desire to provide a warm and homely environment for public and private gatherings.

Food Hygiene

To say that we are keen on hygiene and cleanliness is an understatement. We set our standards very high because we think that you deserve nothing less. The City of York Council also think are standards are high, awarding us with a 5 Star rating. The Annexe was the only store in Copmanthorpe to receive an excellent rating (before they got rid of the excellent category!) and one of the few in the city who achieved maximum marks across all the inspection categories.

Accessibility

The Annexe was a new build in 2008 which means that our building meets all the current accessibility standards. We have step free access and a fully accessible toilet.

It is possible to drive a mobility scooter into The Annexe, however some customers have found it difficult to turn their vehicles around once inside. Usefully, we have a substantial amount of space outside where mobility scooters can be parked. Users of electric wheelchairs have no problem accessing our coffee shop and its toilet.

Making Contact

The easiest way to contact The Annexe is to visit the shop. Sarah or Chris are there much of the time, but do usually have a day off on Tuesdays.

You can like The Annexe on Facebook or follow us on Twitter.
