Recycling
From March 2006 the kerside recycling expands once again, it now includes Plastic Bottles and Cardboard. Starting on March 13th Copmanthorpe will have a green waste collection which will alternate fortnightly with the Black bins. As usual the recycling will be collected on the same day as the green waste.
What you can actually place in the recycling box and bag is quite limited, (newsprint - yes; Yellow Pages - no) and this probably reflects the limitations of the benefits of recycling (more on this subject soon). Other items such as cardboard, plastic bottles and textiles can still be sent for recycling through the use of the Recycling Centres in and around York.
Please note that the collection of waste for recycling will not be undertaken by your usual bin-men. A separate collection is run for recycling, so please ensure that your box and bag are out by 7am or you may miss out on collection.
- All colours of glass bottles and jars (please rinse them out and remove the lids)
- Food and drink cans including pet food cans and metal biscuit tins (please rinse them out and crush them if you are able to as crushed cans take up less space in the recycling vehicle)
- Empty aerosols
- From March 2006 when green waste collections re-start all properties with a green wheeled bin for garden waste will also be able to put all types of plastic bottles into the kerbside box for recycling. This service will only be provided to properties with a green wheeled bin for garden waste collections.
